Canadian Prime Minister honors Rush drum legend Neil Peart

The world of music basically ground to a halt on Friday when the news broke that legendary Rush drummer Neil Peart had passed away after a three-year battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Performers from all genres of music have paid their respects via social media, and so have some prominent non-musicians. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted: "We've lost a legend. But his influence and legacy will live on forever in the hearts of music lovers in Canada and around the world.“

Peart is widely considered to be one of the best - if not the best - rock drummers of all time, and was also RUSH's primary lyricist. He has also written numerous books.

Peart and his Rush bandmates, guitarist Alex Lifeson and bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee , were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013.

In addition to his bandmates, Peart is survived by his wife Carrie and daughter Olivia.
