R. Lee Ermey Brought a Megadose of Reality to Full Metal Jacket

Actor R. Lee Ermey, better known as "Gunny," is dead.  

The 74-year-old actor's manager announced Ermey died from complications of pneumonia at a hospital in Santa Monica yesterday. 

Ermey is best known for his portrayal of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in the 1987 movie, "Full Metal Jacket", a role that landed him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. 

His other credits include "Seven," "Dead Man Walking," "The Boys in Company C," "Mississippi Burning," and his own shows, "Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey" and "Mail Call."
