Jessica Sweetman's "Get Out Of My Way" Is The Empowering Anthem We Need

Time's Up. Me too. Women's marches. White roses. Black dresses. Over the last year, females all over the world have been stepping up more than ever in many different ways to fight back against inequality, for their rights, and especially against any type of abuse. Now, British singer/songwriter Jessica Sweetman has written and released a female empowerment anthem about it all called "Get Out Of My Way."

Jessica, originally from the UK, has been living between New York and Nashville, and has previously opened for Van Morrison, in addition to supporting artists on tour like Hozier and Keane. Sweetman is currently working on her new album, but is hoping to help send a message to the world with her new song, which according to a statement on social media, is extremely personal to her.

"Get Out Of My Way" is a piano ballad full of lyrics explaining that nothing will in her way and that changes need to be made like, "Tick tock/Give it up, like me I've had enough/But I'm not backing down." And in the second chorus, Jessica sings, "One, two, three, four/I'm not knocking anymore/I've got things to say/One, two, three, four/I'm not begging anymore/Get Out Of My Way."

On Facebook Jessica explained about the song's inspiration and meaning:

"I wrote 'Get out of My Way' for all the women out there who have ever experienced feeling so small or insignificant that they forgot their worth. Abuse of power is real, it is happening every day and it has to stop right now.

I wrote this song also as a personal statement to all those who ever got in my way and I ask them now kindly to step aside so I can do my thing and start business. In other words, "Get out of my way."

I have invested so much of my time and energy in fighting for what I set out to do and it should have never been this difficult. I invite every woman out there to take this song, make it yours and own it. We are fierce, we are mighty and we are a force to be reckoned with.

Please share and pass on the message of this song to your personal universe. This is our time - Now."
