Andrew Garfield Opened Up About Grief During An Interview With Elmo

Andrew Garfield sat down with Elmo on Sesame Street recently and he opened up about his grief he experienced when his mom passed away in 2019 from pancreatic cancer.

Garfield shared how he has learned to deal with the grief saying that:

“I’m just thinking about my mom today. She passed away not too long ago and you know, I just miss her a lot….," he said. "You know, that sadness is kind of a gift. Kind of a lovely thing to feel in a way, because it means that you really loved somebody when you miss them.”
He continued, “And when I miss someone, when I miss my mom, I remember all the cuddles I used to get from her. All the hugs I used to get from her. It makes me feel close to her when I miss her, in a strange sort of way.”
“So, when I miss her, I remember it’s because she made me so happy. So, I can celebrate her and I can miss her at the same time,” said Garfield.

If you've ever experienced grief, these words Garfield shared give you a different perspective on how to not look at it as such a negative feeling. You can check out the clip below to see everything Garfield said to Elmo about dealing with grief.
