A small section of Wilshire Boulevard…may soon be car-free.

Currently, Wilshire runs right through MacArthur Park. But a plan is in motion to remove the pavement in the park, which would expand it by 2 football fields.

The decision was made 90 years ago to split the park…to prioritize traffic. The idea now is to reclaim it for the people.

I had no idea it used to all be ONE park.

The downside: Increased traffic on surrounding streets…and MacArthur Park has its issues…and some think this wouldn’t help.

The changes come as the city deals with its dependency on cars… will we eventually be car-free? During the pandemic many streets closed so people could walk and have more outdoor space and in some cities like San Francisco, they haven’t reopened to cars since.

I see what they are trying to do here it has potential to be a beautiful park!
