The long-awaited sequel to Beetlejuice will finally arrive later this year - but it could have happened decades ago.

At one point, director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton were on board for a sequel titled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian.

It would have followed the gang to - obviously - Hawaii, where Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz would have summoned Beetlejuice to to save the locals with a magic surfing contest.

A few people, including Kevin Smith, took a crack at the script, but the movie never got off the ground.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be out Sept. 7th, starring Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, and Jenna Ortega.
