Chipotle Will Be Testing A Guacamole-Making Robot Named Autocado

Now Chipotle Mexican Grill has their workers prep everything fresh and especially when they make their famous guacamole.

Recently, Chipotle announced that they are testing a "collaborative robot" called Autocado at their Chipotle Cultivate Center in Irvine, CA. The Autocado "can take up to 25 pounds of unpeeled avocados at a time" by standing the avocado "upright one at a time, slices them in half and removes the skin and pit." From there the peeled avocados are dropped into a bowl and that's when the Chipotle worker will take over to complete the guacamole process by adding all the ingredients.

β€œWe are committed to exploring collaborative robotics to drive efficiencies and ease pain points for our employees,” said Curt Garner, Chief Customer and Technology Officer at Chipotle in a news release. β€œThe intensive labor of cutting, coring, and scooping avocados could be relieved with Autocado, but we still maintain the essential culinary experience of hand mashing and hand preparing the guacamole to our exacting standards.”

The Autocado will help speed up prep time by 50% and honestly that sounds amazing because peeling an avocado, especially when there's a bunch to be peeled, takes a lot of time. For more, click here.
