This Week's Weird News 3/24/23

A possible ghost photographed by a trail camera, a potential 'lake monster' spotted in Mexico and a mythical creature in France that turned out to really exist were among the weird and wondrous stories to pop up on our radar this past week.

Something of a new 'lake monster' burst onto the scene this past week by way of a puzzling photograph shared by officials in a Mexican city. Posted on social media by the government of Atizapán de Zaragoza, the odd image purportedly shows a mysterious creature that, they claimed, residents had reported seeing in the waters of the community's Madin Dam. Amazingly, they went on to note that local legend states that an aquatic dinosaur akin to Nessie lurks at the bottom of the location and indicated that, in response to requests from the public, police were stepping up their patrols of the area in search of the yet-to-be-named monster of the Madin Dam.

In a remarkable story which should give hope to cryptozoology enthusiasts, the French Office for Biodiversity announced this week that a scientific study had confirmed the existence of a feline creature that had previously been considered a myth. Known as the Ghjattu Volpe, or 'cat fox,' the animal had long been a part of local lore on the island of Corsica, though it remained up for debate as to whether or not it was real. That question was finally settled following an exhaustive scientific study wherein researchers were able to capture some of the creatures and, upon studying their genetic makeup, determined that they were a feline species wholly unique to the island.

This past week saw one of the eerier ghost photos we've seen in quite some time cross our desk by way of trail camera in New York state. The chilling image, which was shared with C2C by Jesi Grandall, was captured as her husband and daughter were out hunting in the woods on their property in the community of Savona. Only recently noticed when they were going through their trail camera photos from the past few years, the image shows the duo being followed by what appears to be a third member of their hunting party in the form of a translucent figure that went unnoticed by the pair at the time and may have been the ghost of a former owner of the property who passed away years ago.
