Writer and content creator Eli Rallo, 24 of New York, has got viral for sharing her 15 rules for a successful first date.

  1. Her most important tip is to have your first meet-up on a Thursday. "On a Thursday you can say to someone what are your plans for Saturday? And then you can go out with them on the Saturday or get Sunday brunch. It's the perfect closeness to a weekend where you can make plans for a second date before Monday, and then you know how you feel about them before the new week starts."
  2. Prep for a date by drinking 1.5 glasses of your fave beverage to get yourself 'pumped up.'
  3. Apparently listening to Ariana Grande whilst you prep is key.
  4. Don't text "all day every day before you go on a first date. You don't know them. Don't become a pen pal. You want to get to know them in person not over the phone."
  5. Try to plan your first date on the same night as your other single friends so you can get together and dish after.
  6. "For a first date, having a beverage is king because then you can hold something and you have something to do."
  7. For clothing she advises the "Canadian tuxedo" - jeans with a denim jacket - in spring or summer, and an "F-me sweater" for the cooler months. The sweater "screams confidence but is also soft and huggable."
  8. Don't add them to your phone contacts until the third date. "They don't need to take up real estate" on your phone.
  9. "Straight men fall in love in the time they can think about you subconsciously. So have an incredible first date them leave. Give him the time to think about you and fall in love with you." She warns that this won't work if your first date is a woman. Women fall in love through sex and intimacy.
  10. Tell one comedic traumatic story to show your potential partner what's coming.
  11. Order a "spicy sexy margarita."
  12. If they pay for the date make sure you thank them in person, but don't be the first to text after a date.
  13. She recommends if you're looking for date convos you can ask "What's your top five favorite albums" or "What would you bring to a desert island."
  14. Make sure you take a moment to text a thumbs up to your friends so that they know you're okay.
  15. Make tentative plans with a friend so you have somewhere to go if the date doesn't go well.
