US Tourist Fell Into Mount Vesuvius After Taking A Selfie

Watch out when you're taking a selfie! Phillip Carroll, a 23-year-old tourist, fell into Mount Vesuvius last weekend as he tried to get his phone.

The Maryland resident and his family went on a trail at Vesuvius that is actually off limits to visitors. When they got to the top of the volcano, Carroll stopped to take a selfie and his phone ended up falling into the volcano. He then tried to get his phone back but lost his balance and ended up falling into it and got stuck.

According to Fox 11, Mount Vesuvius highest peak is 1,277 meters with a crater diameter of 450 meters and a depth of 300 meters, which is more than 900 feet deep. 900 FEET DEEP. Tour guides from the Presidio Permanente Vesuvio witnessed everything and rushed to help him by using a long rope to retrieve him from the crater. Carroll suffered some cuts and scratches to his back and arms and was also taken into custody by the local police. The family will be facing charges after they were reported by authorities for invasion of public land.
