No Cars Allowed This Weekend In South LA! Could You Do It?

So, no cars will be allowed this weekend in South Los Angeles for the first CicLAvia event of 2022.

First the name, so “Ciclovia” is a Spanish term that means "cycleway", either a permanent bike path or the closing of certain streets to cars for cyclists and pedestrians. So they just put LA in ten middle of the Ciclovia to make CicLAvia.

This Sunday, the free event will close off three miles of Western Avenue to car traffic, allowing people to ride bikes, skateboards and other “people-powered vehicles” to explore South L.A. neighborhoods.

Organizers say that by turning “public streets into public parks for a day,” people get to move around freely and safely! This event has been going on since 2010 and this the first time I’m hearing about it! It goes from 9am to 4pm.

Can’t make it on Sunday? CicLAvia is planning three more events later this year:

· “Meet the Hollywoods” on August 21st

· “Heart of LA” on Oct. 9th

· South L.A. again on Dec. 4th
