The Food and Drug Administration advisory committee rejected a proposal to distribute booster shots of the Pfizer vaccine to the general public. This news comes after the committee agreed to only distribute them to people ages 65 and up as well as those at high risk of severe illness. The panel voted 16-2 against distributing the vaccines to Americans 16 and older, before unanimously going with the alternate plan to give boosters to older Americans and those at high risk. This decision pushes back against the Biden administration who have been pushing for the booster shots to be given out starting this. Now, the status of the booster shot will go to a group of advisers to the CDC, which will take up the issue in a two-day meeting next week.
