California Lawmakers Propose New Bill To Speed Up Reopening Of Disneyland!

Two California lawmakers just introduced a new bill meant to put pressure on Gov. Gavin Newsom to speedup the reopening timeline for major theme parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood. Currently, Newsom's reopening plan won't allow theme parks to reopen until the county they're located in reaches the least restrictive fourth tier (yellow tier). Meanwhile, smaller theme parks with a capacity of less than 15,000 can reopen in the third tier (orange tier). According to a press release, AB 420, "calls on the governor to allow large theme parks to reopen alongside the smaller ones in the orange tier, which is one step ahead of the yellow tier." If the bill passes, Gov. Newsom could always veto the bill, but it's unclear if the legislature could legally alter the governor’s plan even if they had the votes to override his veto.

The theme parks in California have been shut down for nearly a year already and it doesn't seem like California is going to get out of the most restrictive tier anytime soon. Lawmakers want this bill to send a message to Newsom and hopes it will force the Governor to take action faster.
