The coronavirus pandemic is really making restaurants think outside of the box and the latest concept could take dining to new heights in San Diego. The Cohn Restaurant Group is trying to convince the city to temporarily install an observation wheel aka an upscale Ferris wheel. It would be located in Balboa Park in the Plaza de Panama between the San Diego Museum of Art and the Timken Museum. The "Balboa Park Star" would consist of 36 enclosed gondolas with each gondola able to accommodate as many as eight passengers and up to 288 passengers revolving simultaneously. The cost for riders would be about $12-$15, with discounts available for families, military and seniors. The structure of this "observation wheel" is very similar to the one installed at Coachella every year. The idea is to have this installation up for only three to six months and is planning to seek formal approval next month.
What do you think of this concept? Would you eat on a ferris wheel?
