The "Walk 10,000 Steps a Day" thing, was just that...A Thing

You have permission to ignore the goal of walking 10,000 steps per day. That number was pulled from thin air in the '60s. A Japanese company making a pedometer launched the slogan: “Let’s walk 10,000 steps a day.”

It’s stuck ever since, even though scientific research has proved that you never need to walk that far for health benefits.

A Harvard Medical School professor believes taking about 4,000 steps per day is plenty. She said, (quote) “ I cannot emphasize more strongly how important physical activity is for health. Even very modest amounts benefit your health. For instance, try to get 2,000 steps more than you already do.” (The Wall Street Journal)
