Los Angeles could become the first major city to ban horse racing after the deaths of 30 horses at Santa Anita Park.
The Los Angeles Board of Animal Services will "consider a motion to prohibit racing and off-track betting in L.A."
From there, the LA City Council would have to be on board and then pass it on to legislation in order for it to be banned.
Commissioner of the Board of Animal Services, Roger Wolfon told City News Service, “This wasn’t a political calculation. Look, 30 horses have died at Santa Anita, that’s a nearby city.”
Santa Anita Park would not be affected by this decision considering they are not lot located in Los Angeles.
The motion failed with a 2-1 because only three of the five board members were there to vote.
However, Commissioner Roger Wolfson says that he plans on raising the motion again at a later meeting.
