On the latest episode of my podcast "Maria's Mutts and Stuff" I spoke with Mary Martin and Jose Santiago from The Maricopa Animal Shelter about their first-ever "Calm the Canines": people in the community volunteered to sit by the dogs in the shelter during fireworks on the night of July 4th.
And it was a huge success! I think shelters around the country need to do the same thing; it also opens peoples' eyes to see what the shelter is about; that animals there aren't damaged; and it increases adoptions!
