Steely Dan Will Keep Touring After Death of Walter Becker

Steely Dan will continue in the wake of the death of co-founder Walter Becker, according to Becker's counterpart Donald Fagen.

"I intend to keep the music we created together alive as long as I can with the Steely Dan band," wrote Fagen in a tribute to his late partner in Rolling Stone, who died Sunday at age 67. No details were given about Becker's condition before his passing.

In the op-ed, Fagen reminisced about first collaborating with Becker at Bard College in 1967. The two bonded over jazz, blues, literature, film and comedy.

"We started writing nutty little tunes on an upright piano in a small sitting room in the lobby of Ward Manor," Fagen recalled.

"[Walter] was smart as a whip, an excellent guitarist and a great songwriter. He was cynical about human nature, including his own, and hysterically funny."

Steely Dan last performed during the Classics East and West festivals this past July. The band has more dates on its calendar starting in October. You can see the tour dates here
